Construction Projects and Code Enforcement
The Building Inspections Department can provide you with the necessary code information, applications and inspections for the wide range of projects requiring a town building permit. The application process is concise and efficient. Permits issued must be retrieved from this office (either in person, by mail or from the Permits & Forms section of this website). The permit should be filled out completely and returned to our offices together with payment for the required fees. Once an application is submitted, the appropriate review official will process the application and, in many cases, approve the project within twenty-four hours. More complex applications will require a more detailed review that will, in turn, lengthen the review period. You must have all applicable permits in hand before you begin the work. Property owners, builders, and contractors are responsible for compliance with the requirements of the town's Zoning Ordinance, the State Building Code and all other ordinances, laws and regulations that affect their proposed project.

The Building Inspections office is available to assist you with the interpretation and application of those requirements as needed. We urge you to contact us before you start work on any project, as the penalties for doing work without a permit are quite substantial. The Building Inspector is available to issue permits from 8:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and by appointment at the availability of the Inspector. The Building Inspector may be reached at (828) 419-9300 x372

Business Registration Required
This Department is also responsible for the administration of Business Registrations. We require a Business Registration for any business operating within the corporate limits of the Town.

We urge you to obtain your Business Registration before attempting to begin work within the community. For your convenience we have provided an on-line application form. Should you need a Business Registration in Black Mountain, please obtain the form and return it to us so that we might process your application. Business Registration fee amounts can be obtained by calling 419-9300 ext. 372.

If you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact us. Our staff is available from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
