The Health Initiative
Mission: The Health Initiative will build alliances with community members and organizations to raise awareness and advocate for educational opportunities, activities, programs and facilities promoting healthy lifestyles. Meetings: The Health Initiative meets regularly on the second Tuesday of the month from 4:30-6pm at Town Hall. All meetings and projects are open to the public. 2011 Priorities: 1. Tobacco-Free Parks in Black Mountain 2. Renew Black Mountain’s NC FIT Community Status (Here) 3. Public Outreach Community Produce Distribution Held in coordination with MANNA FoodBank and the Black Mountain Community Garden, fresh produce is available for free to individuals and families in need of food assistance. Where: Carver Community Center When: Last Thursday of every month, 3:00pm-4:30pm. A short cooking demonstration or tasting is typically held prior to the distribution at 2:30pm. Black Mountain Eat Smart Black Mountain The Health Initiative helps support Eat Smart Black Mountain, a project of Black Mountain Recreation and Parks that works to promote healthy eating and active living through hands-on gardening and nutrition programs. Black Mountain Community Garden Support the work of the Health Initiative VOLUNTEER – All are welcome to participate in Health Initiative projects.
