A Living Legacy...Preservation, Recreation, Quality of Life!

The Black Mountain community places a strong emphasis on the provision of quality recreation and parks services. The beautiful natural environment of the surrounding mountains provide the perfect backdrop for the year-round recreational opportunities. In an effort to carry out their mission and to provide for the enhancement of mountain living, the Black Mountain Recreation and Parks Department provides a variety of recreation and leisure activities, special events, facilities and parks that contribute to health, fitness, relaxation, enjoyment and community fellowship for the citizens of the Town of Black Mountain, neighboring communities and visitors to our town. Recreational pursuits are important to our community's quality of life. With a staff of fivesix full-time employees and a number of seasonal employees/volunteers, we endeavor to provide recreational opportunities that are second to none. Recreation Commission
The Recreation Commission is comprised of appointed residents and guides Black Mountain Recreation and Parks. Commission meetings are held at 5:30 p.m. on the fourth Thursday of each month at Carver  Center. The meetings are open to the public.

Our recreational facilities offer a wide array of programs and other recreational opportunities. Listed below are the facilities together with the programs/course offerings/recreational opportunities that can be found at each.

Some of the facilities are available for private party rental: These include, Lakeview Clubhouse - both upstairs and downstairs, the covered pavilion, pool and the Grey Eagle Indoor Center. To inquire about these rentals opportunities contact: 419-9300

Facilities: Four Lighted Ball Fields, Multi-Purpose Field, Walking/Jogging Path, Oaks Trail, Picnic Areas, Fishing Platform, 18-Hole Disc Golf Course

5. River Walk Park & Dog Exercise Area
Behind Bi-Lo shopping center on NC #9 South
Picnic Tables, Green Space, Fishing (Swannanoa River), Walking Path and Dog Park

6. Grey Eagle Arena
17 White Pine Drive  (Blue Ridge Road and White Pine Drive)
Facility: Indoor Multipurpose Arena, Picnicking
Program offerings:  Soccer, Dodgeball, Birthday party rentals, Practice rentals.

7. Dr. John Wilson Community Garden
Located below Grey Eagle Arena adjacent the Swannanoa River. 
Forty raised beds plots 5� X 50� are available for an annual fee for your own garden plot, or volunteer to raise vegetables for local food banks.
