The Special Response Team (S.R.T.) was created in 2018 due to an increase in the service of high risk warrants, fugitive apprehension and narcotics search warrants. In order to expedite the response of officers during high risk situations and to move the Black Mountain Police Department toward becoming more self-sufficient, we developed the Black Mountain Special Response Team. The process to become a team member is very intense and difficult. S.R.T. members complete an exhausting physical agility course and complete a weapons qualification course that greatly exceeds State standards. The team is comprised of twelve officers who all have completed a State certification course in Tactical Operations. Members are required to attend additional monthly training focused on all types of emergency response situations.
This team is not only a tactical response team, they are well versed in rescue, woodland operations, negotiations, personal protection, crowd control, search warrant service and mutual aid to surrounding agencies. The sole purpose of this team is the preservation of life during the most difficult of situations.
