Sanitation

The Town of Black Mountain provides residential solid waste services through a contract with Waste Pro Inc. Sanitation services are administered through the Black Mountain Public Works Department. The Town does not provide trash receptacles. Citizens may purchase them privately or contact Waste Pro for toter rental.

Types of solid waste collection include household garbage, recycling, and yard waste. The Town encourages citizens to participate in the recycling program to control costs and to preserve our natural resources for future generations.

Refuse & Recycling

Residents should refer to the Refuse/Recycling Collection Calendar to determine their trash and recycling pickup day. Refuse and Recycling must be placed at the curb no later than 7 a.m. on your scheduled pickup day. All trash must be bagged for pick up. Do not place any items at the curb before 5 p.m. the day prior to your scheduled pickup date. Waste Pro will no longer pick up missed stops for failure to comply with the set out time. Please refer to the Sanitation and Recycling brochures for disposal guidelines. Residents should contact Public Works Senior Administrative Assistant, Tausha Millwood, who coordinates with Waste Pro and the Public Works Department at 828-419-9300 ext. 2 for questions or concerns regarding sanitation and recycling pick up or to schedule a white goods or yard waste (brush) pick up.

Fluorescent Light Bulbs

As of December 12, 2015, fluorescent light bulbs are no longer accepted at Fire Departments. The Buncombe County Landfill is permitted to accept fluorescent bulbs with regular waste, so you may place them in your garbage. For those wishing to recycle them, the following options exist:

  • Lowes and Home Depot will accept some fluorescent light bulbs
  • Fluorescent bulbs may be voluntarily recycled at the landfill on Household Hazardous Waste Days. Some fees may apply.
