A minimum of two-thirds of the membership shall be made up of full-time residents within the corporate limits of Black Mountain. The remaining one-third of the membership may be made up of residents who reside in the East Buncombe Fire District but not within the corporate limits of any incorporated municipality. The Town Council appoint membership.
Responsibilities & Purpose
Commissioners are intended to act as the recreation liaison between the citizens of the Town, the Town Council, and the staff of the Recreation and Parks Department. The Recreation Commission's primary function is to recommend policies and programs to the Recreation Director and Town Council within the scope of responsibilities as outlined in town ordinances. Recreation Commission members also provide recommendations to staff for the approval by the Town Council on the development of long range plans for the Recreation Department including program offerings and the development of recreational facilities.
