New Resident Information

Welcome to Black Mountain. Here you will find useful information regarding Sanitation services.

The Town of Black Mountain provides residential solid waste services through a contract with Waste Pro Inc. Sanitation services are administered through the Black Mountain Public Works Department. Solid waste collection is provided for all residents living inside the city limits of Black Mountain through payment of property taxes. You are not required to "set up" an account or notify the department of change in ownership. Types of solid waste collection include household garbage, recycling, yard waste and white goods. The Town encourages citizens to participate in the recycling program to control costs and to preserve our natural resources for future generations.

Sanitation

Residential collection of up to six - thirty gallon garbage cans is provided once per week at curbside. Please refer to the Refuse/Recycling Collection Calendar to determine your pick up day. The Town does not provide trash receptacles. Citizens may purchase them privately or contact Waste Pro for toter rental. Trash should be placed at the curb no later than 7:00 am on your scheduled collection day. Failure to do so may result in a missed pick up.

Recycling

Recycling is collected every other week on the same day as trash pick up. Please refer to the Refuse/Recycling Collection Calendar to determine your pick up day & week. The Town will provide each resident within town limits with 1- 18 gallon recycling tote if the property does not currently have one. You may also purchase larger recycling containers privately. Recycling should be placed at the curb no later than 7:00 am on your scheduled collection day. Failure to do so may result in a missed pick up.

Yard Waste

Yard waste is collected on Fridays/Saturdays by request only. You may schedule a pick up online or by calling our office at 828-419-9304. All requests must be received by 4:00 pm on Thursday. Any requests received after 4:00 will be scheduled for the following week. Yard waste is defined as plant material (leaves, grass clippings, tree branches and brush, flowers and shrubbery trimmings) debris commonly thrown away in the course of maintaining yards and gardens. Brush shouldn't exceed 6 ft in length and 3 inches in diameter. Items larger than this will need to be disposed of privately. Each week a maximum of 8 cubic yards of waste can be collected. Eight cubic yards is equivalent to 7 feet long, 6 feet high and 6 feet wide. At no time will the Town be responsible for collection of yard waste produced from lot clearing or tree removal, nor any dirt, rocks, tree stumps or roots. Leaves and small debris should be bagged for pick up.

White Goods - appliances, including but not limited to, stoves, refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, dishwashers, trash compactors, television sets, hot water heaters, and window air conditioners are collected on Fridays by request only. Large Items

Bulky items - items to be included but not limited to: boxes, items of furniture, chairs, tables, couches, mattresses, cabinets, dressers, etc. are collected on your scheduled trash collection day.
