Dr. John Wilson Community Garden

Founded in 2004 by Dr. John Wilson, the garden's mission is to provide GROWing space for local residents, SHARE our harvest through volunteer labor, and EDUCATE the community about best gardening practices.  Community members can rent a half plot (8x25 ft) for $20 from March 1 to October 31. Returning gardeners can expand to a full plot (8x50 ft) fro $35. Gardeners may grow year round for an additional $20 per plot.

The garden consists of approximately sixty 400 ft plots rented by over 90 community members. Each gardener donates the produce from first five feet of their plot, known as our 10% program. Seeds or starts and education is provided by the garden manager for the 10% program. Gardeners provide the labor to grow the crop to maturity. Volunteers harvest produce as it’s ready.

Volunteers grow on an additional twenty 200 ft plots for donation only. Produce is grown year-round and all donations are made to Bounty and Soul, a local non-profit providing access to wellness education and fresh produce on a weekly basis. Each year the garden donates on average 4000 pounds of fresh garden greens, fruit and additional vegetables to Bounty and Soul.
