Tomahawk Phase II Restoration Project

The second phase of the Tomahawk Stream restoration project restored approximately 1,400 linear feet and is now complete. Riparian buffers, 5' - 10' wide, are planted along the banks. Where the channel is scoured, stone/wood structures now form riffles and pools. There are significant ecosystem benefits created by these improvements and approximately 97 acres benefit from the restoration. This restoration allows the area to remain for recreational use at the golf course, promotes environmental quality, and encourages sustainable practices. The project restores the stream to a functioning state, allowing waters to subside at a natural rate and reducing damage to the stream. It will help control sediment load downstream, and increase the health of the French Broad River Basin.
