Building Inspection Availability (UPDATED)

inspections

Inspections will evolve as this public health crisis worsens in the community.

The Building Inspector must wear personal protective equipment in the field, including but not limited to N95 or better mask and disposable gloves. Unless otherwise requested by the inspector no one else is to be on-site during the inspection. Other PPE may be required as guidance is provided from the Centers for Disease Control, North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, and the Buncombe County Health Department.

No in-person inspections will be made in enclosed environments (change out, stand-alone inspections). For these inspections, the individual may choose to delay doing the work or elect for a remote inspection using a video call. The inspector is using the Google Duo app, which is free on iPhone and Android.

Even in the event of community transmission of pandemic building inspections will continue at the discretion of the Building Inspector utilizing PPE and best practices.

Remove live inspections may be utilized based on guidance from the Department of Insurance. It will be noted in the inspection file that this is the manner in which the inspection was conducted.

Building inspections will be suspended, with the exception of emergency situations, in whichever of the following scenarios happens first:

  • If the State or County issues a requirement to shelter in place
  • The Town reserves the option to turn inspections over to the County if local circumstances require such a shift before inspections are suspended by the County or State.
